Step by step guide
Preparation
- Sand cut edges with 60 grit.
- Mark positions of shelf, base and skirting board cutout on both side pieces.
Montage
- Using a jig saw or hand saw, cut out the skirting rebates in the two sides.
- Using a dowel jig drill 3 blind 8mm holes on each side of the shelves and base and glue in 8x40mm dowels.
- Using the dowel jig drill 2 blind 8mm holes in each side of the base front and back pieces, and one hole in each side of the stiffeners.
- Using the dowel jig drill corresponding blind mating holes for the shelves, stiffeners and base in the two side pieces.
- Dry fit the shelves, stiffenners and base to the sides to verify hole alignment and depth.
- Glue dowels and mating edges, assemble, and clamp.
Finish
- Sand with 120 grit, vacuum dust, and apply a coat of PVA wood primer.
- Sand with 240 grit, vacuum dust, and apply a coat of PVA paint.
- Sand lightly with 400 grit and apply a second coat of PVA paint.
