A Smart Washing Machine Cabinet for the Utility Room
What do you do with that corner in the utility room where the washing machine and dryer are? Marc had solutions in mind and decided to get started himself with a custom-made cabinet. This washing machine cabinet not only offers practical storage space, but also works as a neat conversion for both the freezer and the washing equipment.
Design and Materials
For the cabinet, MDF Primed material was chosen, cut to exact size by TOSIZE.lu. The result is a sleek design in a modern, dark green color. Thanks to this choice, the cabinet fits perfectly into the interior of the utility room.
Why in the Utility Room?
The utility room is often a space that quickly becomes cluttered with appliances and items. Marc’s washing machine cabinet offers an elegant and functional solution by combining storage with appliance housing. The aesthetic advantage is that everything remains neatly out of sight, while also being quickly accessible.
Unique Features
In the design we see drawers incorporated under the machines, ideal for detergents and other necessities. In addition, the cabinet uses different depths, as indicated in the construction drawings, which allows for optimum storage capacity without loss of space.
Benefits of MDF Primed
MDF Primed: This type of wood is easy to paint and has an even structure, making it ideal for a smooth finish. It is also easy to work with, making it perfect for custom projects like this one.
Modern Elegance
The whole has a minimalist and functional style. The dark green finish and clean lines give the utility room a modern look, with a nod to Scandinavian design. The atmosphere is calm and tidy, exactly what you need in a space that is often used a lot.
DIY tips from Marc
Marc recommends making good use of construction drawings and planning everything completely before you start. A tip he likes to share: make sure you protect yourself from dust and sawdust when cutting to size.

Step by step guide
Preparation
- In preparation started with research into standard washing machine cabinets. Then measured the location and started working it out in Autocad. After working it out made an order list in Excel and entered everything on the website.
Montage
- Started prefabricating the main elements. All connections made with Häfele Minifix and dowels. This makes the connections tight and out of sight. After the main construction, started with the doors and drawers. Then finished the side with a plate that could be attached from the inside with screws.
Finish
- Completely painted and finished with sleek handles. Adjusting the doors went smoothly, adjusting the drawers is a bit more difficult. Insides finished with edge banding. The sides of the panels finished in sight with an edge sealer.
